Illustrated Research Institute's Values "SBC"

Zukai Soken's values are based on a framework called "SBC." SBC is a philosophy that encourages activities that combine the three elements of "Social," "Business," and "Creative." We will explain what each of these three SBCs means. They are the principles of conduct that underpin all of Zukai Soken's activities. We will explain the three SBCs here.

Social

"Sociality" means thinking about the impact our activities have on society. At Zukai Research Institute, we aim to engage in activities that will have a positive impact on related stakeholders. Based on this idea, we jointly devised the "Purpose Model" in 2020. The Purpose Model is a model that visualizes who is involved and in what form, with a common purpose at its core. Are there any stakeholders that we have not taken into consideration? Has anyone been sacrificed? It is also a common language for constantly looking at a project introspectively from a bird's-eye view.

Business

Next is "economic viability." This indicates whether an activity is economically viable. No matter how socially significant an activity is, if it is not economically sustainable, it will be difficult to continue for long. In 2018, the Illustrated Research Institute came up with the "Business Model Diagram" as a method for considering economic viability. The Business Model Diagram is a common language that visually expresses the essential elements of a business model using a 3x3 grid. By using this diagram, business models that are difficult to convey in words can be succinctly expressed, reducing communication costs.

Creative

Finally, there is "creativity." This refers to generating new ideas and innovative solutions. It is a way of thinking that allows you to incorporate new ways of thinking that are not bound by existing frameworks. For example, Zukai Soken has devised a method called "paradox structure," which aims to make it easier to bring out paradoxical ideas that are not bound by common sense.

...

Combining these three elements in a well-balanced way is the basis of the activities of the Illustrated Research Institute. The order is also important. First consider sociality, then ensure economic viability, and finally add creativity. Economic viability and creativity that do not take sociality into consideration may sacrifice someone, and trying to produce only creativity without sociality or economic viability tends to be empty.
This SBC philosophy is the most important guideline for Zukai Research Institute, as it aims to balance social, economic and creative aspects while constantly reflecting on itself and working towards a better future.
