Our CEO, Tetsuro Kondo, appeared on "PEP Talk," a podcast from the Policy Entrepreneur's Platform (PEP) of the International House of Japan. It was released on YouTube and as a podcast in February 2024.

About the program

"PEP Talk" invites authors of books on social issues and public policy and asks about the background to their books. Kondo's episode is titled "PEP Talk 'Seisaku Zukai': An in-depth interview with the author, Tetsuro Kondo" and runs about 50 minutes. The interviewer is Takaaki Umada, director of PEP.

What he talked about

The book discussed is Seisaku Zukai (Policy Diagrams), published in December 2023. It presents 50 government policies, each drawn in a shared format of three rows and nine cells.

The interview focused less on the content of the book itself and more on what surrounds it.

  • What ZUKAI does day to day
  • How the book came to be written
  • The response after the book, and the articles it grew out of, were published
  • How the 50 policies were chosen
  • The trial and error behind the nine-cell format and the arrows that show relationships
  • The conversations that came out of workshops held before the book
  • What he noticed while diagramming many policies
  • What comes next for policy diagrams
