About This Project
At the request of the NPO "Silent Voice," we created a diagram tool kit for use at "Deaf Academy," an after-school day service program attended by deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
Not only for the children: at Silent Voice, where deaf and hearing people work in equal halves, this diagram tool kit is also planned to be used going forward to improve communication skills among staff.
Silent Voice (https://silentvoice.org/) is an NPO that, through its education and employment divisions, updates the relationship between deaf people (the Deaf and hard of hearing) and hearing people, continually increasing what "we can do together."
According to the people at Silent Voice, they surveyed their deaf staff and hearing staff, gathered actual cases of miscommunication (between deaf people, and between deaf and hearing people), and considered what skills children should develop through education to enable better communication with one another—which led them to this diagram tool kit (visual thinking tool), and to commissioning us.
By incorporating the diagram tool kit we created into their daily work, they will increase opportunities to foster self-understanding, process-thinking ability, the ability to infer, and the ability to convey.
Going forward, workshops using the diagram tool kit are also planned, bringing together deaf and hard-of-hearing children with hearing children, and through these interactions they aim to update communication with one another.

Thank you for the commission.
