Nikken Sekkei to discuss uses of local transport with government, business and residents, making redevelopment proposals easier (Nikkei, in Japanese)

What the article says

The article covers the project as an initiative of Nikken Sekkei Ltd. It reports the following.

  • The project, begun in 2024 in Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture, is expanding to Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture
  • SMART Fukushi Lab (Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture) and ZUKAI are cooperating
  • Workshops that bring together residents, local government and companies develop local talent, identify the demand for going out, and examine ride sharing among residents and ways of using public transport
  • In the background are older drivers giving up their licenses as the population ages, and the shrinking of means of transport such as buses, railways and welfare transport services

What ZUKAI is responsible for

The Community Drive Project is a project for citizens, companies and government to work together on local mobility issues. Its aim is to develop the people who move a community forward, before building services. It began in July 2024.

ZUKAI is responsible for three things.

  • The overall design of the project, and running it as the secretariat
  • Planning the workshops and facilitating them as a whole
  • Developing the "Mobility Issue Map," which serves as a shared language for discussion

The Mobility Issue Map analyzes the voices gathered in workshops and surveys, and connects the causal relationships between issues into a single diagram. It uses the thinking behind the Issue Map.
